Clearblue® OVULATION TESTS

THIS IS NOT HOW I THOUGHT
I WAS GOING TO CONCEIVE A CHILD

I had always suspected that I might have some problems because I’d always had really irregular cycles. So, when we decided to start trying I went to my GP. They found a fibroid which is just a growth in the uterus and they advised me that that could cause complications when trying to conceive so I decided to have that removed and they also said that it looked like I could be polycystic. I started taking Clomid and the first round worked in so much as I had a 28-day cycle probably for the first time in my life. But the second time I took Clomid absolutely nothing happened. And she said to me at that appointment, I was on my own, and she just said ‘I think you’re going to need IVF’. And I remember my whole world just seemed to come crashing down. I was so scared. This is not the dream that I had in my head about how I was going to conceive a child.

So, I went to see another specialist and she said ‘Well, I think that is a bit radical. I was charting, I was doing ovulation tests all the time to try and work out when I was ovulating, if I was ovulating on these drugs, this combination of drugs that I was then on. By the time we had reached that point when 10 rounds of treatment hadn’t worked, and we were ready to move to IVF, I was actually in a really good space mentally. And we were incredibly lucky that that first round of IVF did work and I have a little girl who is nearly 3.

And I decided that we were going to start trying again for another child and we tried naturally for a year and a half but nothing happened, so we used one of our frozen embryo from our last round of IVF. And unbelievably that did also work and I am currently pregnant now.

I think talking about what you’re going through when you are not getting that second line on your test and you’re struggling to conceive is so important. And if you don’t feel able to do it with people in your real life then go online, find the organized support, and the communities that are out there. There are so many people that are just waiting to support you And I feel so passionate now about trying to raise awareness for other people who might be going through a similar experience, and to just let them know that they’re not alone.
